Not unless they are really far out. I live in one of the more affordable areas of NYC and a 1 bedroom apartment goes for about $1,000 in my area. Unless you're going to live very far away from the city I don't know of any places where you could even get a 2 bedrooms in a multifamily home for $1,000. In my area 2 brs would go for about $1,300 or so, and the other half of the house would be occupied by another family since it is a multi-family.
