I mostly fly out of LGA actually, which is about 25 minutes away. Not the greatest airport, of course, but it's close. Second choice is JFK, followed by EWR. We ONLY fly out of EWR if it's literally the only option. Never flown out of White Plains or Stewart but we've looked, usually a layover where we're going and I hate those.

Fly out of HPN whenever possbile if there is a direct flight. Otherwise whatever is available and cheapest..EWR and JFK are both about 1 hr, LGA about 45 min. Lots of options

Yeah right. And if your flight is delayed ten minutes you wait another hour for a train.

If I am flying 6 hours cross country the last thing I want to do is drag my stuff on a train an extra 45 minutes. I am getting into my car or a car service.

When I lived on Long Island, and when I fly up there, either JFK, or Laguardia, but from Westchester, it would be closer to Newark.

This is why there is no one answer. If you are flying cross country then yeah, fly into the easiest airport to get out of and hop into a waiting car. If you are driving, consider parking rates, proximity of the lots (long-term parking at JFK is FAR away) and the time of day you will be going/coming home. If you have a one hour flight with a carry-on bag you might not mind hopping on transit when you arrive so go with the cheapest fare. When traveling with the kids we use Westchester whenever possible for ease, but my mom loves hopping on the train from Newark when she flies in from Toronto. Etc etc etc...
