I want to expand my driveway but the electric/utility pole is in my way. I called conedison and asked about relocating the pole a few feet away. They told me it would cost 20-30k. Is that accurate? The guy seemed like he had no clue.

Has anyone done this before and how much did you pay?

You might want to call the town building department first on this. Our town has no sidewalks in our area and as such, they own the first few feet of my property. In that case it may not even be on your land to make that call.

Not arguing whether its on my land. I just want to pay to have it moved. The pole is owned by con edison and I am sure they can move it as they see fit on the towns land.

Call them back, and ask for someone to come out and look at it and then give you a detailed, written breakdown of the costs. Much of it is going to depend on what is on the pole and how many others the pole serves.

What's up there, transformer, cable, phone, electric ??? How many customers are going to be disrupted if the pole is moved ? Just you- are you the last on that line ? Do they have to co-ordinate with cable and phone linemen too ?

It sounds simple but could actually be quite involved. Also since the pole is probably on town owned land, as someone else pointed out, the town may care less about having the pole moved and may not give permission. You might want to question the town also.
