Hard, as in everybody is well-educated and has money and is a bit pushy because they are used to getting their way, and there is a vibe... It's hard to put my finger on exactly, but it's the feeling that everyone is judging you, like everyone is thinking how much better they are than you, and comparing their XYZ to yours. Kids are all in tons of activities and go away for the entire summer to sleep away camp starting in second grade. The town is EMPTY in the summer - like you are walking your dog on a beautiful summer afternoon and pass not one single person, and it is silent. No kids laughing. Moms stay at home and still have nannies. Seriously. And everyone was all up in your business. We did a project on our yard and we had one set of neighbors come over and tell us we couldn't do it (um, yes we can), and another set was seen at the edge of our yard consulting with our plan (that they went and got from the village) and a lawyer. It was just weird. It didn't feel normal to me.
Having said all that, I did meet some very nice people there (but they were all expats, no natives...hmm) so the thing to remember is that you can't paint everyone in a town with the same brush.
