I will have a check-in and a carry on; I am generally comfortable with public transit. But I also want to avoid the need to carry all the luggage many blocks, transferring between train /subway / bus.

Looks like I have 4 options:

1. Taxi all the way: estimate $100-$120.
2. Shared Shuttle: estimate $55-65
3. Metro North to Harlem 125th, and taxi from there: zero (since I have monthly train pass) + $30 for taxi
4. Metro North to Harlem 125th, and M60 from there: zero (metro north) + $2.50 (bus).

Questions:
1. How far is M60 stop, from the Metro North train stop?
2. Are the estimates above reasonable?
3. If some of you have done options 2, 3 or 4, write your summary. OK? Great? Avoid it!

The other option is to go all the way to Grand Central and catch the airport shuttle bus from there - under $15 each way. While its an additional 10 minutes on the train, the bus itself goes directly to the airport, no stops.

I took the M60 about 10 years ago, so take this with a grain of salt - but at the time, it was a very slow bus because it operates on a local schedule. And kind of a pain, because there isn't room for storing your luggage. There are stops all along 125th street, so there should be one within a block or two of Harlem metro north stop.

I normally find the GCT very crowded, so was thinking of avoiding it...
How far outside the station is the airport bus?
Which exit to come out of GCT to optimize it? There are so many levels and exits at GCT...

As I recall, the pick up is at Pershing Square - 42nd street and Park, across the street from Grand Central. I think if you go to the big clock and walk directly south (so not up or down any stairs, and in the opposite direction from the entrance to MetLife building), that brings you out to Pershing.

But I would google the bus website to make sure that's still where the pick up is.

I recently took the M60 from LaGuardia to 125th. It stops maybe a a half block from Metro North. If you are traveling light it's ok and worth the inconvenience to save some cash. Remember you need exact change $3 for the fare on the M60.
