I live in New York City, Queens I would love to relocate out of the city. I am a nurse so my job isn't bound to being close to the city. What are the some relativity safe areas that are not crazy price. I know Westchester can be pricey. I can pay about 1800 for a 2 bedroom maybe 1900 but no more. I have a son in pre-k so good schools would be a plus but if I had to he could go to private schools.
We live in Yonkers, up Warburton (past the 900s) and quite close to the Hastings border, near the MetroNorth line. It is very safe in this area of the city. We pay 1650 for a two-bedroom apartment. We're happy with the place. Ours is not a co-op, but many of the places near there are.
In terms of schools, we will see next week when our son starts at Foxfire! By the way, I am in education (though higher ed, not public schools) and it is my firm belief that, as long as the area is safe, most public schools are fine for younger children, particularly if children are taught at home as well. It is when kids get older -- nearing middle school -- that I would either consider sending my kids to either private schools or moving to a town with highly rated public school system. Most of the towns along the Hudson, up the MetroNorth line, have very good to exemplary public school systems.
