Cortlandt Manor..just south of 202. Great New Housing, Safe, Excellent schools (Lakeland - Lincoln Titus Elem., Cooper Beach Middle, Walter Panas High), Beautiful area. ...and NO snobbery!! Taxes are still on high end but that's Westchester!!
LOL. Panas is NOT a "good" district.
It is mediocre at best.
Of course there is no snobbery.
Tons of low income people in that area.
Good question. Somers is pretty invisible on this board. I've wondered why too. Perhaps we'll be enlightened.
I was referring to just this thread, but it's true- a Google search of "Somers City Data Forum" returns literally zero results. The only subjective review of it I could find was an Urban Dictionary entry of Somers High School, which, surprisingly considering most other UD entries, is fairly positive. Is Somers the hidden jewel of Westchester?
I actually drove through Somers last weekend. I found it pleasantly vibrant- aside from the natural beauty of the area, there were tons of cyclists and the parking lots to the farms and preserves were all filled.

Somers is excellent. The schools are better than both Yorktown and Mahopac. Its a step up from Yorktown -- a little more affluent. Katonah is a step up from Somers and Yorktown is a few steps down.
You're making broad generalizations about a large and diverse area, which is frankly absurd. While I imagine that price is a major deciding factor for people in the lower end of the market in Yorktown Heights, it certainly is not for those in the higher end of the market. When we looked, we found plenty of houses that we loved in Chappaqua and Bedford but we rejected them both because of the schools. My favorite house was in Katonah, but we didn't like the cultural feel of the area. In YH we were able to get more land for the same cost, but price wasn't the deciding factor. As I said in an earlier post, lots of people I know who've moved to YH in the last few years paid enough for their homes to have afforded a great house in Bedford or Chappaqua or Katonah, but they chose Yorktown Heights for the schools, location, and lifestyle.
I like how he says someone else is making broad generalizations and then he said he didn't like Katonah because he didn't like the "cultural feel" of the area. That's not broad at all.
Did the lack of chain restaurants and stores give you a bad vibe? Too many families walking around for your liking?
There is a reason people pay more to live in Katonah, Chappaqua, Bedford, etc. over Yorktown. But it's great, we all have our opinions and are free to live wherever we want and wherever makes sense for ourselves and families.

I was going to respond to your previous post and explain why I assume the OP wouldn't pay attention to your comments, but then you went ahead and wrote the above which made the point for me. So thanks.

1. I have to say I took for granted that "cultural feel" implied a personal preference and gut reaction, not something that I would pretend was a statement of fact. But point taken, I should have clarified that that was just my own feeling.
2. Speaking of broad generalizations!
