Hello. I am accepting a great position with a company in Danbury, CT area.

A little about me:
  • I'm a single, low-key, late-20s gay man relocating from the midwest.
  • I am looking to spend under $1700 a month for a 1 bedroom apartment.
  • I'd like to keep my commute to 30 minutes or less.
  • If possible, I'd love to be near a train into the city for the weekends, but this is not essential.

Are there any communities in Westchester County where I could settle, be accepted and not feel isolated? Any there any communities nearby with slightly larger gay communities?

Thank you very much in advance for any guidance.

You're not going to have problems with the gay issue anywhere, that's no big deal. But the other stuff is tough. A 30 minute radius around Danbury doesn't have much except for exurban, family oriented communities. Feeling isolated is a pretty good bet for anybody in their 20s. There are gay people everywhere, but a meaningful gay community.... not so much, I think. You might think about Stamford or Norwalk CT if you want a more dynamic scene, but the commute will be longer. You could also think about Danbury itself. Try posting on the CT board.

Have you looked at Brewster? I've heard it has a good amount of commuters plus a train station.
