Because they don't make 220k. That's absurd.

The highest median salary in the nation for teachers is in Nassau County, and is 88k.

So even if you have two average teachers working in Nassau, you don't get close to 220k.

And, generally speaking, govt. workers are making more like 50k or 60k, so they're going to have a hard time getting to 220k unless they've been working for 30 years, are managerial, or extremely lucky (handful of powerful unions deliver outsized incomes in a few classifications in a few jurisdictions).

Sheeeet, glad I opted for a few pizzas and a cake.

Public school Teachers who are in their mid-30s certainly make at least $110k, as they should. Cops that age make even more.

Not true. Where do people come up with this stuff? The biggest source of teacher jobs in the metro area, by far, is NYC, and NYC top salary is 100k. And that's after decades of work, so highly unlikely to be buying in mid-30's, for the purpose of educating kiddies in good school district.

Average salary for all NY teachers is around 70k. And NY has the highest paid teachers in the U.S.

Average age of a NY teacher is 42. Much older than "mid-30's".

There are a few towns in Westchester with extremely high teacher salaries, but they are nowhere near the norm. A few places like Scarsdale have high median salaries, but average teacher age in Scardale in the low 50's, and they are outnumbered 50-to-1 by teachers in NYC and other areas. Highly paid Scarsdale teachers are nearing retirement, they aren't looking for a house to raise family.

The blue collar stuff is irrelevant. That fact is, it's very possible to live just fine in chappaqua for $220k.

And, speaking to the $2k birthday guy, that's a very odd way to spend your $$ IMO.
Right up there with the $75k Mitzvahs and Sweet 16's. Sure, there are epople that do that, but there are many many more that don't - nor would they. I fear for the values your kids are picking up.

All Westchester public employees' salaries are listed on the Internet. Experienced public school teachers make 110,000+ and that excludes after-school and summer jobs. Cops make more.

The problem is no one wants to set a limit. So then the parents feel they have to come up with the 2K birthday party per kid every year, or else forgo the party altogether. And then people complain about keeping up with the Joneses. But it takes a secure few who can put a stop to the madness on parties, activities, camps, etc. That stuff is great if you can afford it, and IF you WANT to afford it, but most of the time it seems like people are doing this stuff because they think everyone else is. Everyone else is not. You can live in Chappaqua on 220K. Just don't sign on for all this stuff. The other parents will thank you.

That would have been my preference too..talk to my wife...Trust me this was not a lavish event event - things just add up. 75k is a far cry from 2k

I wont event mention the recent Baptism party for our youngest.
