My sister-in-law is a teacher looking for an apartment in the Westchester area (I am originally from Connecticut, now live in Texas). She is a teacher in Yonkers,2 small dogs, budget under $1400 per month. Her biggest concern is finding a pet friendly rental. She is willing to commute up to a half hour, open to any areas. She is 30,newly divorced,no children....
Try Westchester-Craigslist. You can filter by number of bedrooms, whether it accepts dogs, price, etc. She can probably find options in north Yonkers, Tuckahoe/Fleetwood or maybe White Plains.
She can also try hotpads.com or any of the real estate websites such a Trulia.com, zillow.com, realtor.com., etc.
Where does she work, southern or northern Yonkers? Just ask her to drive up and down Central Ave, have someone with Camera next to her. She will find so many rentals, drive the lanes around Nathan's in Northern Yonkers, they look decent.
I had an apartment around McLean Ave that I rented from Garson Realty and I also had a dog you could try them they seem to have several buildings.
