I will be commuting a few days a week from Connecticut to White Plains. I will need to occassionally take the Metro North from White Plains into NYC around 4PM in the afternoon. What is the parking situation at the station? In CT, you need a parking permit. I'm assuming it's the same in White Plains; however, what are the parking lots/options near the station and the costs?
White Plains has a large garage with daily parking where you pay on a daily basis and don't need a permit. I am not sure how many daily spaces there are, but the garage is quite large and I never had a problem getting a spot there the few times I took the train into NYC from White Plains.
There is the garage directly adject to the train station, however it can be a pain in the a$$ in my opinion. Generally it gets all filled up, but you might have to drive up all of its floors (5 I think) before you figure that out.
There is however a big parking lot directly behind the train station. Most people don't know that this place exists though. You drive down to the Westchester Convention Center, go across the Bronx River Parkway, and enter the parking lot. They charge either $4 or $5 for the day depending if you enter during rush hour or not. This place always has spots.
This information saved my day. Thank you.
Only small clarification is that the previous posting should say "Westchester County Center" instead of convention center. This detail helps if you are trying to locate the place in map services.
I agree the parking lot at the Westchester County center has plenty of space. It has also recently been redone, so there are more spots available. The only possible thorn in the side is that sometimes (more now than before) the lot closes for whatever occasion and its only open to permit holders. For example it was closed today (1/14/09). If you don't travel here every day you might not get the notices the day before, so make sure you give yourself enough time to park and get the train. If the lot is closed there are lots Directly in front of the Westchester County Center that may still be in use on that particular day.
I am researching parking for people coming to tour local colleges. They wanted to know if they can park their car for 4-5 days at the White Plains Train station lot and if I knew the costs. Does anyone know this information, or better yet, a number I can call to speak with someone at the actual garage?? Thanks for your help!
