Hi. We are moving our family to either Westchester County or Fairfield County this summer and would love some advice. We definitely need top rated schools (and would also prefer smaller ones) as my son is Learning Different (Asperger's) and we tend to have better success in a more controlled environment.

Other considerations are my daughter who is going into 8th is fairly shy and wouldn't enjoy a cliquey or materialistic peer group . I'm trying to find good schools, welcoming community, and a town that has things to do but also has good access to outdoor activities.

Some of the towns that are catching my eye just based on internet research are:

Briarcliff Manor
Croton-on-Hudson
Eastchester
Ridgefield
New Canaan
Weston
Darien

Any thoughts on these? Others to consider?

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Hi, I don't have kids but I would vote for Croton. There is great hiking/walking in this area and people are not snooty and showy. It's quiet and un-congested. I work in Fairfield County and find it to be the opposite--congested, snobby and very materialistic and people seem to be obsessed with the type of car they have. Personally, I could never live there. I don't know much about the schools but I've heard Croton schools are good with small class size--but other people would be able to tell you a lot more. I can't comment on Briarcliff but I go to a great gym there--Club Fit. If you choose that one, you should check it out. Good luck.

All nice towns but all very different. Although Eastchester would be very different feel from Briarcliff/Croton. I live in Briarcliff, am very happy

Hi, I'm curious to find out what you decided and how the first few months of school are going. My son will be starting high school next year and we are looking at similar areas and have similar needs.
Thanks for any information!
