The only point in going to private vs. public is to circumvent the more recent recent and very poor curriculum of common core standards, otherwise, no smart or average brainy kid needs the academia of private school. I've met countless of successful people who attended public school and colleges and have paved their own way in life without setting foot in a private institution!

For those are unaware of "common core", it's basically a nose dive mandate sponsored by the NGA, to prepare and fast track students at all grade levels (including kindergarten) to enter a two or four year college, although there has been a lot of controversy surrounding the teachings (notably confusing) and credibility of the program recently.

One thing to note here is that the Common Core curriculum itself is used by many private schools, some even implemented the curriculum before many NYS schools did. This they do in my kid's private school in NYC, and I know Marymount and CSH use it also. What private schools don't do is subject themselves to high stakes testing where teachers get fired or schools closed down if test scores don't meet the standard.
