Why would ANYONE tolerate laws like this governing what you do with YOUR property.
Here is a lesson to all. Move OUT of New York. Leave the "Nazi State" behind and come join America.
Life out of that state has been Amazing.. life in that state sucked so bad it was a misery day after day.
2 acres of land, 10,200 sq foot house, neighbors are all nice, schools are great and we paid 109,000 for it 2 years ago.
LEAVE NEW YORK already.. life sucks there
Trust me.. I am an ex new yorker.
You know there are "rules" so to say.. everyone knows what they are and people still choose to do things to their homes without the proper permits, no one is to blame but themselves. It is not like they woke up one day and found out they have violations in their home, they knew this from day 1.
Everything comes with a price, moving to AZ in a house for $109,000... there is always a catch.. I do not know many New Yorkers that would move to AZ or any state for that matter even if you paid them too. In NY it is a love-hate relationship, everyone complains but they do not want to go anywhere else.
I have family in Rochester NY, a house for $150,000... but its Rochester.... what in the world is in Rochester? I visited them, you couldn't pay me to live there.
I have had clients go to FL, AZ, NC, and they came back, they couldnt stand it. Sure some people love it but there is a reason so many people never want to leave NY. Many like it here but just like to vent and complain... its okay they still want to live here.
Yorktown, not into that town much but thanks. taxes seem to be too high in comparison to other towns in northern westchester.
I hear ya, you'll probably be one of those people at every board meeting complaining about something. You say Yorktown is so bad, although you live in North Salem, which is beautiful, and you are houseshopping in other towns. Im confused. What are taxes to high there also?
Good point MikeNY on permits. If people go for them, it'll make it a lot easier on everyone else.
As far as NY, I would consider leaving for Cali if I had a great job lined up. Uh, the weather, and the earthquakes.
well there is alot to complain about and I can understand it totally when they do. However moving is not always as easy as it sounds and many cant move for many different reasons. I think if people could move, more would in droves. so instead people are foced a hard life of work for nothing mentality. unfortunatly most people don't realize this until they are ready to retire. I know so mny retiries who tell me that same song "if I knew then what I know now I would have gone long ago".

YUP it is but thats not why I'm looking in other places. It'll be beyond you.

Mike... don't be so sure that so many people move back. although some have (like many other places too). many never return and have made a much better life for themselves elsewhere.
You are right though about people in NY in the sense that in general they complain but continue to live here. Not sure why that is??? I think that if people smartened up they will see that there are so many other places to live that can offer so much more. if you go on this forum and read some of the other towns. People seem happier than us.
