Trying to jump from apartment dwelling to home ownership. I have coop in Hartsdale, NY and considering trading up to a home. Seeing some good prices in Ossining.

Questions:
1. Some prices are very, very cheap - are there bad neighborhoods I need
to worry about? Some of these homes look very nice (and not typical of
a bad neighborhood)

2. Why is the property tax so high??

3. How is the school district?

I know that there are some nicer areas and some not-so-nice areas in Ossining. Not sure why the taxes are so high, though..... Sorry, can't help you. Have you considered going up a little further North for nicer homes and lower taxes????

Thanks for the responce.

I am trying to go a bit further, but (for the time being) seemed to be locked into staying kinda close to the Hartsdale / White Plains area.

Although I will keep trying to push!

Thanks

Certain areas of ossning are not good but my brother lives in the Indian village section and its quite nice. Schools are ok, probably on the same level as White Plains, better than Hartsdale. Would you consider Pleasantville or Hawthorne - still close to White Plains but better in terms of area and schools.
