I'm a republican and I am not a fan of Section 8 nor do I support. Yes Liberals aka Democrats LOVE these hand-out programs. They like keeping people unmotivated in bettering themselves. They love for people to keep sucking on the government nipple in order to please their voter base, get elected/reelected and maintain democrat control of NY.

Agreed. i feel like we have gotten so far away from the founding fathers' principles that I dont know if we can ever become who we once were. i was poor as anything when I came out of college. i worked for $10 an hour and lived on my own. i dont know how I even afforded food on Some days. but I was frugal with my money and I learned to appreciate the small things in life. A lesson I will never forget. Its inherently and historically unAmerican to create large bureacracies and government agencies to take from one person and give it to another person. Its setting a very dangerous precedent, one that may be too late to turn back.

I agree. That's why Obama is called the Welfare president. He is a Socialist where you steal from the ones who worked their butts off to be successful and give to the losers and underachievers.

Imagine that...you get punished for being successful via higher taxes while you get rewarded for being lazy and a low life. That's the socialist, liberal, and democrat way. Why anyone that is even remotely successful vote for a democrat is beyond me.

Obama is the only politician gunning to abolish the AMT so far. As NYS resident with a good income and a bunch of kids who writes a check to the Fed. each year only for AMT - I'm fine with his tax plan.

That's Obama's way of throwing a bone to the "non-poor" to keep you at bay. If Obama had his way fully, us small business owners and other upper middle class people would be paying more taxes for those tax dollars to be allocated to "Welfare" type of programs. Yeah no thank you! I worked to hard to get where I am to have some low lives leech off my hard work while they do absolutely nothing with their lives. Obama...socialism at it's best.

It's funny how all of the countries that are consistently voted to have the highest standard of living, the best education systems, the best conditions for women in the workplace and families, etc etc etc..., such as the Scandinavian countries, Belgium, Canada, etc, are all countries that are considered to be social welfare states. Republicans like you are so caught up in ME ME ME that you forget that there is an US. It takes some enlightened thinking to realize that if we all contribute to a social safety net, we ALL benefit in some way. But if you don't care about the wellbeing of your neighbors or community or country and only worry about MINE MINE MINE then I can see how this might be beyond your realm of comprehension...

OK, as a Republican, I have to point out that jerks can be affiliated with any party. The posters weren't speaking for their parties...only their own deranged rantings. Unfortunately, the party that once embraced a small efficient government has gotten innundated with a bunch of whack-jobs lately, just as Democrats have.

I think we can all see that Socialism has seen better days based on what's going on in Europe, but there is a whole lot of wiggle room between creating a welfare state and letting the sick, old and poor die in the streets. I'm OK with a safety net - not creating an entire generation of people that are completely dependant on government interference.

I'm all for helping the next man and society but when you unfairly target people that make more so they pay more taxes, that's when you're crossing the line. Everyone should pay the same in taxes despite income level. You work hard to be successful and now that you are successful, you want to reap the rewards of that hard work. But no, Obama and the rest of the democrats want to stick it to upper middle class people just because they make more so that have more to spare. What a bunch of BS.

You got to love liberals. We now have four generations of welfare families (it really got going in the 1960's with LBJ's "Great Society"), and that's just fine with them. They think that a single mother sitting at home doing nothing all day except receiving a lifetime of food stamps, welfare, Section 8 vouchers and daycare, is taking care of their "well being." I, as a conservative, look at it as cruel and unusual punishment.

With respect to Section 8, I know a single mother with one child who busts her butt working 40 hours a week at a low wage job. Given the rents around here, she needs assistance. I, and 99% of the people, have no problem with that. But she is the exception. The majority of Section 8 tenants do next to nothing, and if you ask the landlords, they are mostly terrible tenants. They should be offering to sweep the halls and shovel the snow (like that will ever happen!).
