The city council is holding a public hearing on the residential project proposed for the space currently occupied by Metro Fresh in Fleetwood. The structure will be far higher than surrounding buildings and will have around 300 apartments. The parking deck will be sold to the developer and will no longer be a municipal lot.

Many angry residents came to the hearing 2 weeks ago to protest the project. The hearing continues this Wednesday, June 11 at the 7pm city council meeting. Anyone may speak and express opinion about the project.

I read that the merchants were in favor of it. True?

That parking garage is a disaster. But parking is already tight in Fleetwood, so I'm not sure why the merchants are for it if there is no replacement for the garage.

The merchants want it because it means more customers for them. They're probably thinking foot traffic. They may not even be aware that the sale of the municipal deck is part of the proposal.
