At least one that I know is a family member (cousin, I assume) of a Mt. Vernon family and he is working in the family business. Another works the butcher counter in a super market. Both are in their 30s.
I think it represents family connections more that any widescale immigration. You hear ten Irish accents for every Italian in this area (MV/Yonkers/Bronx).
Most Italian immigrants came to the US from 1880-1910. I would be interested in more recent immigrants, as I have never heard/seen any.
There was a second smaller surge of Italian immigrants in the 1950's and 1960's, when the southern Italian economy was flat on its back. So you do get seniors whose native tongue is Italian.
