Virtually none of whom are still alive today. 600,000 went to the US in the post-war period, offsetting the decline of the Italian-born population significantly and giving a boost to many communities in the NY area.

There were 214,000 Italian speakers in New York State in 2010 and they're more concentrated in ethnic enclaves than the Italian American population generally:

In Westchester, the Italian-speaking community is still 20,000 strong and it's the most common spoken language after English and Spanish.
