Dobbs Ferry, Irvington, Hastings living (Florida: to rent, house, to buy)

Hi, My wife and i are interested in the area. We will be moving in may. We live in florida and and are originally from ny. We have a 1.5 year old son.I am looking to rent then buy. Rent should be about 2k a month. We are looking at a home for around 500k. We would like 3 bedrooms good schools and a good commute into grand central terminal (where ill be working.) we woudl also like taxes under 10k. we dont know a ton about the area. Any input you guys have on living there?

Unfortunately, you will not fine a 3br home for 500K with taxes under 10K in Hastings, Dobbs Ferry or Irvington. I grew up here and my husband and I would love to buy a house here but it is out of our range (which has the same parameters as you). In this area expect to pay closer to 650/700k on the low side and taxes 15/20k. It is a great community and the schools are really good and the commute to NYC is a dream (30 min express to Grand central/ 40 mins on local).

Just out of curiosity why come back to NY from Florida? Florida is our 2nd home. As soon as the opportunity comes we'll move down there.
