We are a family with two kids (5 and 7) and consider moving to Pelham. We love most of what we saw. The thing that makes us hesitate (apart from the very high property taxes) is that there don't seem to be (enrichment) after-school programs at the elementary schools (like various sports, arts, science, languages, cooking, ceramics, theater, etc.) they way it is common not only in Manhattan but in most other Westchester communities (Eastchester, Scarsdale, Larchmont, etc.). We know that there are various institutions that offer things like sports and arts, but apparently not at the schools for the most part. Our kids are too small to get to these places by themselves. If one child were to have an activity, the other one would have to be dragged along for two hours minimum. We very much hope that we are wrong and that there might be parents out there who can share their experience.
