I was wondering if anyone has any insight in to commuting from Ossining or South Salem and the respective times to Grand Central?
I have never visited Ossining, but as with river towns it seems more congested and busy than the towns far from the train line and river.
Is it better to commute to the Goldens Bridge station from South Salem or to New Cannan?
I am looking at the condos in Eagle Bay Drive, which seems less busy than the main downtown area, but it looks like the train line goes right by which might be annoying.
Does anyone have any reviews of living in the river towns or right on the Hudson? Is living with a view of the water worth having a more crowded town?
Ossining is going to be a better commute, trains run express and are around 45 minutes. Eagle bay is very nice. I would not consider Ossining super crowded. Yes there is more congestion on Rt 9 during day so it may take you a few minutes longer to get somewhere but its not significant

Goldens Bridge by huge margin. Maybe also Katonah and Bedford Hills. New Canaan not even in the running.
For Eagle Bay condos you'd actually be better off using the Croton station - and it has the best train options on the river. Many express trains even in non-rush hours.
I don't know the commute to the South Salem area, but I have to believe it would be longer and not nearly as many train options.
I love Ossining and it is not at all my "last choice" as it would be for another poster, but the area itself is very different from South Salem. It really depends what you are looking for in a town, as well. South Salem has a much more spread out, quieter feel - though I don't really think of Ossining as 'busy' except during school bus/commute times. Interestingly, I know a woman who just moved here from Indiana and she loves how 'small town' Ossining feels. Everyone's perspective is different.
