Live in Larchmont and my commute is about 55 minutes door to door to my office at Lexington and 42nd Street.

I think if you have just a walk to the station, the one-seat ride to grand central during which you can read (its a pretty civilized commute) and then a short walk to your office from GCT - you got it made!

I think very few people living in Westchester have less than an hr commute. Considering that its a pretty civilized and relaxing ride with few delays like the LIRR and NJT, I cannot complain. And it helps being able to walk from GCT

Please tell me how long is your commute door to door. I drive 10 minutes to Scarsdale, take a 30 minute train to GCS and then walk 7 minutes to the office, but given parking time, lights, etc... I end up taking no less than 55 minutes everyday. How is your commute? Please be realistic, dont tell me its 30 minutes to the city if thats only the train ride. Pls. Tell me from which train station and whether you get Penn or GCS... THANKS!
I live in northern westchester, I use the Croton station. Door to door, to midtown near grandcentral, is one hour and ten minutes. The train to Croton is about 47 or 48 minutes every day. It can be as fast as 45 minutes, or as slow as 52, but usually it is 47 or 48. My drive home is under 10 minutes, the rest is walking to work.

One thing to keep in mind, besides length of trip, frequency of trains is almost just as important. That is one of the reasons why I like White Plains. During rush hours, there is a train every 5-10 minutes, which makes it almost like a subway. I have friends who live in Northern Westchester towns that have their own stations, and drive to either WP or NWP because the frequency of trains is so much more convenient.

That said, my door-to-door commute from WP is about 50-55 minutes, and I work 7 blocks from GCT.

Thanks everyone for your replies. It seems that 55-1hr is the norm for southern westchester and it goes up from there.

I have to say I have noticed thet the harlem line trains are packed. Just a few weeks ago I was able to always get a seat on the train, but it seems that now it is always packed. Not sure what is going on. Has anyone else noticed?

croton. usually takes about ~1:15 door to door (5m drive, 2m walk, 47min train, 20min subway downtown, 3min walk), assuming the 4/5 isn't running terribly, which happens at least once or twice a week.

I think that in late May through early August you have additional train riders that are college and grad school interns, law firm summer associates, etc., who are living with their parents for the summer. So that might explain a small uptick from early May to early June. That said, people often take vacations in the summer months so July and especially August seem quieter on the trains. Unless there is something specific happening on the Harlem line, my guess is summer intern season has something to do with this.

Live in Yonkers, walk 10 minutes to the Wakefield station, 28-32 minute train ride and another 10 minute walk to work in Midtown. So total about 50 minutes as well.

I leave home in Edgemont, drive to and park at Hartsdale Station, board the morning express train, and arrive at my desk near GCT in about 55 minutes. This assumes no train delays, of course...
