How do these areas rank in terms of good schools, quality of life and overall reputation? I understand this is completely subjective but I would really appreciate if someone could help me get a better understanding of the pros and cons of the below areas.
- New Rochelle
- Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow
- Valhalla
- White Plains
- Yonkers
- Elmsford
- Greenburgh/Hartsdale
- Hawthorne/Thornwood
- Mt Vernon
- Port Chester
- Pocantico Hills

Thanks so much in advance!
This is a pretty good list of what are generally considered the least desirable Westchester communities. They're the cheapest, I guess that's the pro. But differentiating between Valhalla, Hawthorne/Thornwood and Elmsford seems like a rather dreary exercise. Similarly, few people would likely be interested in comparing respective school districts. What exactly is your purpose? And why these towns?
New Rochelle/Mt Vernon - most convenient to the city but also the most sketchy in certain parts.
Sleepy Hollow - best name
Valhalla - not a viking paradise, but not bad either, underrated?
White Plains - large, has its own city. Somehwat flat for Westchester, as the name would imply.
Pocantico Hills- not sure, was this a Disney movie?
Yonkers- its own city, or is it a suburb? A bit of an identity crisis.
Port Chester- pretty sure this one gets bad reviews from most, not sure if there is a port either.
Hawthornwood -this one blends in pretty well.

And Just for the record, I picked a town where the horses are usually treated better than the people, so what do I know
