HI. We have been looking at homes with a Scarsdale P.O. and Eastchester schools. We have found a few of interest, but none that are walk to Metro North. I was wondering if anyone had any insight as to the current parking situation at the Scarsdale and/or Crestwood Stations. Do you need a permit to park? If so, is there an interminable wait for one? Any insight at all is greatly appreciated.

It's been a while since I worked for Metro North..........but I can tell you that those stations have permit parking and I do not know if there is any metered parking anymore. Your best bet is to google: Metro North and find out what each station requires. I know parking is scare especially in Westchester. Good luck.

Not sure how accurate this is- but I heard Crestwood has a 5 year waiting list for parking and Scarsdale is a few years, as well.

Actually Crestwood and Tuckahoe are at least a 3 year wait. When I applied for my Crestwood space, it was a 5 year wait. The Crestwood permit costs $1150 a year and if you pay by creidt card, they add a 3% fee. My husband parks in Scarsdale. The wait there is less than a year (My husband did not have to wait). It costs $400/year but you have to walk a bit. The Scarsdale spots I am referring to are behind Garth Rd and are fisrt come first serve so you may end up walking quite a bit. Good Luck.

Actually my husband just told me his spot went up, so it costs almost $400/year for the Scarsdale spot I was referring to.

Would Scarsdale even grant a permit to someone who lives in Scarsdale, P.O., Eastchester schools? I live in Bronxville P.O., Yonkers schools now and Bronxville will not allow you to apply for a permit.

Most towns do not let you but Scarsdale, Crestwood and Tuckahoe do allow people outside of their towns to park there which is why there is a waiting list.

My DH and I both live in Ardsley but I have a spot in Crestwood and he has one in Scarsdale. Prior to moving here I also was on the Tuckahoe waiting list. They called me but I already had my Crestwood spot.

The Scarsdale spots are actually obtained through Eastchester Town Hall. Linda Doherty is the name of the person you would call - I think she's the town clerk.

That is correct. The Garth Road parking lot for the Scarsdale train station is located in the Town of Eastchester. As an Eastchester resident I believe you would get first priority. There have been times in recent years where the Town Clerk actually announced at the Town Board meeting that spaces were available. Not sure of the situation today.

Of course you can luck out and get a house that is within walking distance of the station. Where I live there is a commuter bus that goes to the station.

Thanks everyone for the info. Is parking on a residential street nearby and walking a bit a possibility?

The area around the Crestwood train station is reserved for Tuckahoe residents and you need to have a resident parking permit to park around there or you will get a ticket.
Some people park in the Crestwood section of Yonkers and walk over but it is a bit of a walk.
You can probably park on Tuckahoe Rd in Yonkers to get to the Tuckahoe train station but there is no guarantee you will get a space and there is no on-street parking on Tuesdays (or was it Wednesdays). Again a bit of a walk but doable.
Not too sure about the Scarsdale station. I don't know if the police patrol the areas around Edgemont or the streets off of Popham Rd. I think they do but am not 100% sure on this one.
I think if there were an easy way, more people would do it as opposed to paying the $$ for the spot. I also think that if it were allowed, the residents who live in those areas would get a little fired up.
The only reason I even know about the Tuckahoe and Crestwood options are b/c I looked into the same ones when I was on the waiting list.
There is a gas station by the Crestwood station that has private spaces. Not sure if he still has some available. He did at the time but was charging an arm and a leg.
