Hi, considering a job in Ossining NY. From Danbury area looking to move closer to work. Considering either East or West of the river. Have a wide search area from Stony Point to Piermont on the West of the Hudson. On the East Dobbs Ferry to Peekskill. Looking for an area where able to purchase a home under $200K. Decent school's be a plus looking to have a family soon. A huge plus any place that has a heavy Italian community influence. Also easy train access to the City.

Any places can recommend taking a look at?

200k doesn't get very far. I'd check out Peekskill and Ossining as they are probably the only towns where you can buy a house that's more than a fixer upper. You'll probably be looking at around 1k sq ft or less and not a great neighborhood, but it's definitely doable. Italian influence is heavy all throughout Westchester. The areas of strongest influence are probably in the southeast (Harrison, Eastchester, Mamk) but there are still going to be plenty wherever you go.

I'm not completely familiar with Rockland, but I know they have a TERRIBLE public school systems in the lower income towns with <200k houses.

Italians in Westchester are kind of like Jews in Westchester in the sense that while some towns have an extremely noted presence, there's very few places where you'd exactly be "the only one" and it's not like many other metro areas that have something like the "Jewish suburb" (i.e. Williamsville in Buffalo, Shaker Heights in Cleveland, to a lesser extent West Hartford, etc.) or the "Italian suburb" (don't have a good example off the top of my mind, sorry). There's more Italians in southern Westchester (as someone else noted, Eastchester particularly comes to mind, many moved there from once heavily Italian Yonkers and Mt. Vernon, far but still a much better commute than from Danbury as it is still closer and you're going on highways instead of rt. 202/35), but again I don't think you'd be "uncomfortable" anywhere.

If yuo are willing to go across the river, you can find something, like Stony Point. Winter its a far more difficult commute since the ferry to Ossining is often frozen over and out of service, but its a pretty area. Schools are not great but not terrible. Taxes are high, but better than Westchester for the most part.

On this side of the river its far more difficult. Montrose and Verplank will have a few listings for you. the Hen Hud school district is pretty good, rated higher than Peekskill or Ossining by most. Its a very easy commute as there is a train station in Cortlandt you cna walk to or drive to with a huge parking lot and parking passes available without a wait list. Very easy to Ossining as its 2 stops, but you could drive there too. Lots of italians there. They have a couple of nice festivals, and the Peekskill Catholic church festivals are well supported by local italians. Peekskill has great homes and its a nice area, but the school shave a worse reputation than they deserve and taxes are high considering the school's reputations, but I love peekskill. Its a great place for families. There are a few streets to steer clear of, but if you are close and need help with that type of thing, people here will help you. Good luck.

It looks like there are a handful of homes for sale concentrated around Yonkers, Ossining and further up in Cortlandt/Peekskill in the < $200k range, assuming you are OK with a Condo/Townhome falling into that category. They may not be too great, though, so I would probably defer to the posters here who are more familiar with Rockland and surrounding counties which might offer some better options in that range.
