We are looking into moving to Westchester but haven't decided or really know which areas are good.
Our budget is $1400 for a 1 bedroom. Hopefully walking distance to metro north or if there are any express buses.
As well as some basic amenities near by like grocery store, pharmacy. And SAFE.
We like New Rochelle, Hastings on Hudson, parts of Yonkers but not sure of where else and the commute with a somewhat walkable town. Is White Plains a good area?
$1400 sounds like it would be a stretch anywhere in Westchester.
If schools aren't an issue for you I'd consider the NE Bronx - Pelham Gardens, Baychester, Pelham Bay - safe and walkable and near public transport and possibly in your budget
Good luck

The other good option is to look in northern westchester. Ossining, Croton, Cortlandt, Peekskill will all have one bedrooms in the $1500 range. Croton is the most pricey of these, but you cna find one bedrooms there for $1500. You might also find something close in Tarrytown, which is a closer train ride. My friend lives there and pays $1800 for a 2BR within walking distance to the train station. They are available, just snatch one up once you see it. They don;t stay on the market for long.
If you don't mind walking uphill from the train station, Hastings, Dobbs Ferry and Tarrytown all have amenities close to the downtown area. Tarrytown has a lot of rentals and you can probably find one in the price range you are looking for. Try Zillow or similar search sites or a local Realtor who can help you out with rental listings.
