Kafoki, If you come into Scarsdale via the Bronx River Parkway and get off at the Crane Road exit, you'll be right near the village center. Just turn right when you come off the exit ramp (be careful, the exit is somewhat confusing--it's a left exit and you actually cross in front of the traffic heading northward on the Parkway.) However, you'll be able to see that if you turn right you're heading for the train station, shops, etc., whereas if you turned left you'd be heading back towards the Parkway.
If you're coming from the Post Road (Rt 22) from either White Plains or Eastchester, you'd look for either Crane Road or Popham Road and travel down those streets to get to the Village.
Scarsdale also has a secondary shopping area in the Heathcote section of town, known as the Heathcote Five Corners. It's just past the Golden Horseshoe shopping center (which is technically in New Rochelle.) The Five Corners has Balducci's and a row of shops including a bank, deli, shoe store, etc., plus a restaurant called Backal's which is in the old Heathcote Tavern Tudor-style building. You can get to the Five Corners via Weaver Street (from the Hutchinson River Parkway).

But if any place has "the attidude" the OP spoke about, it's Scarsdale!

There's no downtown for Rye Brook. The closest you will come is the Rye Ridge Shopping Plaza. Take the Ridge St. exit off the Hutch, go south about 2 miles and the shopping center will be on your right. Live here for a while and meet some people and you'll find it's nearly impossible to go there without running into someone you know, particularly if you're in D'Agostino (supermarket), Starbucks or Family Discount (sort of a 5 & 10 type store, but better than that). But there's no pretty downtown. Depending on exactly where you live in Rye Brook, you're likely 10-15 minutes to downtown Rye or downtown Greenwich, both of which are very nice.

Have you considered norther parts of Westchester? There is more variety there, for your price tag, you can find a nice home. Bedford offers diverse Blue Ribbon schools, close to 684, and while it has its very snobby parts, I am very familiar with it and know many very nice people. Every town in that price range in Westchester comes with its snobby people, but I think you should explore all your options, depending on preferred commute times, etc. Good luck!
