In a couple of weeks, I have to leave Scarsdale at 4:15 PM, and be in Vernon Township, NJ no later than 6:15, but preferably by 6. To add to the potential nightmare, it'll be on a Friday. This is absolutely time critical, being late = disaster.

I pretty much live in my car, I travel so much, but I've never had to do a really tight deadline across the Tappen Zee during rush hour. Should I avoid the bridge and instead go way up to the crossing near Bear Mountain? Here is a link to a map that may or may not work: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/25+W...41.1837332!3e0

Any insight as to what my commute will be like, Tappen Zee vs. going around it, would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not sure you could make it across Bear Mtn Bridge in that time NOT during rush hour.

I'd head up 87 or the Saw Mill and hope traffic isn't that bad.

When the 1 lane road up to Bear Mountain gets bad you will pull your hair out. This is doable but sketchy over the Tappan Zee. You need to make a few moves that may save you some time, like taking 119 (instead of getting on 287 early).

Its tight either way, but I think the Bear Mountain is the way to go. Going over the TZ on a Friday afternoon at 4:30 is going to be a nightmare. That, plus the added traffic woes of the construction equipment randomly being anywhere has made it worse lately. From the TZ to Vernon is tough. Its either the Pallasades north to the end, then Rt 6 to 17 to Vernon, or its I87 up to Rt 6 at Woodberry. Either way, it is over an hour without traffic.

I would go up the Saw Mill to 9A, then take 9A north to the merge with 9 at Croton. Then go to the BEar Mountain once you pass Peekskill. Its long, but traffic won't be as bad.

I think you need ot change plans, or figure out a way to leave before 4:00 pm. If its not an option, I don;t think its a lock that you make it.

Thanks for the advice folks. Absolutely cannot change plans, this schedule is locked in stone. Teaching a class in Scarsdale followed by performing at a wedding.
