Found beautiful homes in Port Chester but it seems to not be too popular. Any insight from families who are moving there or living there now?
The school issue is the primary thing PC has going against it, and it stems from the immigrant population and the imbalance between school enrollment and tax base. The downtown has been revived over the past 5-10 years with a great food scene and shopping options. The schools are quite decent (especially at the lower levels) and don't have quite the issues as an urban district such as Yonkers or Mt Vernon, but obviously do not have the same resources as neighboring Blind Brook or Rye and thus rank much lower. High performing students are put on an advanced track more or less from elementary school and are kept in a group thru high school. Most areas away from lower downtown are very safe and there are some really wonderful neighborhoods that look like a Bronxville or Scarsdale (West of Lyons park for example). Some people prefer these areas if they are sending their kids private anyway. There are also some parts of Rye Brook districted to PC (Rye Hills near Crawford Park) which is a nice area as well.

Port Chester is a great place to live. I live here for over ten years and have kids in the school districts. The schools have improved tremendously and the community is diverse and downtown is flourishing. The school bond recently passed which will continue to improve the schools for years to come. I'd recommend Port Chester 100%
