I just purchased a home in Briarcliff Manor and am in the midst on renovating and got my first water bill (from Jan-March) and it was $1400. We don't even live in the house yet and only started renovating a month ago. We have less than an acre. Is this normal? That's is close to $500 a month in water alone?
Thanks for your replies..The previous bill which was paid for by the previous owners was still $600 which would mean $200 a month which is still nuts. And they had not lived there for a year.......
I have lived in NYC apts until this purchase now so I have no idea about these things. What would cause such a high water price? I am assuming leaks of some sort. If anyone has local suggestions on who I should call to look into this, I would be beyond appreciative!!!!

We use ALOT of water in my house, especially in the summer with the lawn. Our bills are usually 150 per quarter. We live in Mamaroneck. You should call your water company (ours is Westchester Water Works) and ask if someone can come check out why your bills are so high.
The water bill in your town may include other expenses. We also pay a high fee which includes infrastructure and loans payback. Just call your townhall and they'll clarify it.
Thanks. It's just dicey that the last quarterly bill that the previous owners paid was $600 and my quarterly bill jumped to nearly $1500. I called and left a msg for the town so hopefully they can check it out. Thanks for all your responses, it's really helpful as a new home owner!

Make sure to post an update when you get to the bottom of it- we're very interested to see what caused the issue. Really hoping it was just a billing mixup.
