Hello All..

Originally residing on Long Island and I will be relocating my job in Scarsdale in about a month.. Could anyone help or suggest with where I should look for apartments to rent below $1400 a month?? I don't mind a little travel to and from work. Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Tara

I believe 1-bedrooms are $1,700 and up. You could try to get a studio, but they're pretty rare. And these are coop sublets, so you have to go through a lot of rigmarole.

Rental market is tough here.

Try 1160 or 1180 Midland Ave, Bronxville, NY, (it's really East Yonkers) the one bedroom rentals are in your price range, the building parking lot is available for a fee, and Cross County Shopping Center is within a short walking distance. Many parkways and roads in the area have easy access to Scarsdale, East Yonkers is very safe, and Metro North Station to NYC is a few minutes away by car, or a 15 minute walk. Many students from Sarah Lawrence College live in the area. The problem is many buildings in southern Westchester went co-op years ago, so rentals are hard to come by unless you rent from a co-op owner, but some buildings still have rentals.

Another thing to consider is renting an apartment in a private home, they are available all over southern Westchester, and the homeowners usually charge less than a building rental and don't raise the rent as often. My friend in East Yonkers is renting out a three bedroom apartment in his home for $1500, with plenty of street parking and access to his backyard, and he even gives his tenants home cooked food and desserts he baked!

I'd say White Plains, New Rochelle or even the north east Bronx

There are some very nice studio apartments that pop up in that price range from time to time in White Plains, New Rochelle and Yonkers. From what I have been seeing they are leased very shortly after hitting the market. If I were you I would get yourself fully prepared, know exactly what you are looking for in an apartment so you can act quickly and commit once your opportunity arrives.

Look at Alpine Place in Tuckahoe. Small building, but lower rents. The apartments look nice.
