Wal-Mart closing White Plains store, 295 people need to be relocated to other stores or severanced out. Wal-Mart pharmacy customers will need to use Sam's pharmacy in Elmsford. Wal-Mart is blaming low sales in WP on indoor garage and elevator use, they claim customers like outside parking better. The only reason I drive into White Plains is to shop at Wal-Mart, but I do go to the Mohegan Lake store also, because the free outdoor parking is a more relaxing shopping experience, instead of getting free three hours of parking in WP and rushing to getting my shopping done.
Posters on other web-sites are saying that the WP store employed gang members, vendors were stabbed, giving the impression to readers that WP is a high crime area. I don't know if the info being posted iss true, but I never had a problem there, and thought the cashier's worked very hard, especially on busy days. I certainly will miss WP Wal-Mart.

WP also has the closest Target store (similar configuration to Walmart with indoor parking) and I will to drive to Mt. Kisco or even Spring Valley to avoid that location. Last time I was there as a naive new resident, a domestic dispute broke out between some customers inside the store and the police had to be called to remove them. Also, the store was a mess in general with stuff thrown around everywhere. Same with New Rochelle the one time I tried to go to the Target there.

Why can't we have nice things, Westchester?!

I go to the WP Target probably every other week and have never had a problem there. It's clean, well-staffed and the clientele is the kind of mix you'd expect from a Westchester Target--including plenty of upmarket types.

They've been expanding their grocery selection and now have things like zoodles and kale salads.

I suggest you give it another try.

Target is an OK experience. I never had an issue there, but it's definitely not as nice as other Target's I've been to.

Walmart on the other hand is a nightmare. That place is horrible on so many levels and other than the fact that some people will be losing jobs, I'm not surprised or saddened to see it go. I hope they tear down that building and replace it with something more modern.

The Wal-Mart article indicated the location might go residential.

After I go to Wal-Mart, I never go to Target, Shop-Rite, etc, in White Plains, too much hassle, paying for parking, etc, who needs it after the stressful Wal-Mart parking. I thought I was the only one who took long drives to avoid White Plains stores, lol.

New Rochelle has never had a Target...you are probably thinking of the Target on Sandford Blvd in Mt Vernon. Don't go on weekends or holidays and you'll be fine.

The Walmart in WP was always an awful shopping experience. Negotiating that corkscrew driveway to get to the parking lot was a nightmare and the parking lot always looked like a death trap. And after experiencing a full blown super Walmart the WP Walmart was a crummy shopping experience. I'm surprised it stayed open so long.

Horrible experience going to this walmart it is. I avoided it like hell. I thought i was the only one. I also avoid that Target. Muy malo!

I liked the Mt Vernon target until i saw the additional local 4.3% Local tax! I guess online it is!
