Saw you mention Long Island... I occasionally have to go to LIC for meetings. Until last year, I was living in south west Nassau County. I’m in Westchester now. Although on a map it appears that it would be faster/easier to live on LI and take the Long Island Rail Road, I’m finding my commute to LIC to be equal in time, if not faster, now than when I lived on LI. The Metro North trains don’t have to pass through a major hub/ transfer point, as nearly all LIRR trains connect through Jamaica. The LIRR trains to LIC are infrequent, which most people need to transfer to at Jamaica. The alternative, the E train from Jamaica to LIC (and eventually Manhattan) gets incredibly crowded. Overall, taking the New Haven line to GC terminal, and transferring to a 7 train for a few short stops, has been a much more pleasant experience.

Thank you so much for this! Is the 7 pretty reliable from GC? How long do you usually have to wait?
Where do you go from there and how long does it take?
I commute to Downtown. The ride on the 4/5 from GCT to Wall St. is hellish, an absolute disaster. The reverse, from D'town to GCT in the evening is much better.
