I work in White Plains and live in Tarrytown, usually commuting between 4:30-5:30 on 287.

All of a sudden, the traffic has gotten brutal. The ride used to take around 15-20 minutes. It has exploded up to 30-40 minutes. It's usually really bad on summer Fridays, but not in mid-May, and not Mon-Thur.

Anyone have any insight?

I wonder if there's impact from the big project on the 95 / 287 interchange? I rarely take 287, but driving along 95 has gone from bad to worse this week.

That traffic has been a nightmare since the 1990s. You'd think the new Tappan Z. . . (I'm sorry former-Governor-Mario-Cuomo-and-father-of-Andrew-Cuomo) bridge would alleviate things but no.

Keep in mind Thursday is the new Friday and May is the new June.

Unfortunately, the traffic situation is due to the I-95 reconstruction project (near Port Chester). The project is supposed to be completed by 2021.

Good point - things really got crazy starting in May.

Have you tried taking the back roads to Tarrytown instead of 287? Might be quicker, especially on Fridays. The 287 traffic is bridge traffic...yesterday 287 was backed up for hours because there was a truck fire on the Tappan Zee.

I know! Yesterday was crazy. Luckily I was working from home. I often take the back roads - I Google map my route pretty much every day.
