We're interested in having our vertical cedar tongue-and-groove siding sanded and restained. Our home is approximately 2,100 square feet and built into a hill, so it's two-stories tall in the front and one story in the back. The estimate we received includes: exterior wood restoration to remove the dead wood fibers and bring the wood back to solid in order for the stain to bond properly. The steps include but not limited to removing the old stain, cleaning the wood, neutralizing, sanding, staining the siding, beams, and soffit with appropriate stains.

The estimate came to just over $20k and that doesn't include replacing any old trim, which we would also need. Does this seem unusually high or par for the course in Westchester?

I paid 30K for similar project which involved replacing fascia and trim. Another 5K went to replace gutters. House was around 2,600 square feet.

We were thinking it might be another $10k for trim, so it sounds like the estimate is on par with your project. Is your house cedar? If so, were you happy with the results?

This sounds about right given the size of the property.

Yes. Vertical cedar. Trim and fascia was replaced with composite polymer material. Don't remember the brand. Happy with the results. House looks like new.
