Bryn Mawr YONKERS? Yonkers school lottery system? (public school, live)

Hello All,

Looking for some insight on the Bryn Mawr section of Yonkers? How is the area?
Also we're going to enter our son in school in January , how does the school system work? Is it a lottery? Or Zoned school system? the closest school I see is School 5 which doesn't seem very good based on reviews but the next closest school is Patricia Dicharo? I think.

We live 2 blocks away from DiChario (very much in the school zone.) We spent the last year fighting to place our daughter in the school as it is considered a lottery school and one of the best in yonkers. There is no transparency in the yonkers public school system (according to them it is a computerized system-yet many of the board of ed workers children or teachers children get in first) It was a very rough year of her attending another school. If you don't live anywhere near the school you'd like her to attend and aren't up for a very time consuming and a frustrating exchange..don't bother moving to yonkers.
