We had our house inspected for mold and here are the findings:
Basement Drywall: Aspergillus species
Lower Attic:Unknown species
Upper Attic: Cladosporium species
And here are the recommended remediation:
Removal from the attic area all mold/ porous and semi porous materials, insulation stored materials, pipe coverings etc...
Remove from the basement approx.. one foot around the perimeter of drywall and check for mold remove base molding and check for mold
The mold in the attics are due to lack of ventilation/air flow.
The areas are of medium size. Could you tell me ballpark estimate?
Also what kind of contractor does attic ventilation? Roofer? Electrician?...
Also are the type of mold listed above the toxic type?
We have a budget $5000 for the mold removal and installation of ventilation in both attic (split level house)
Are you doing this in preparation for sale, or just for your own edification?
If only for yourself, it's very easy to control mold. Just spray it with hydrogen peroxide using a garden sprayer. Google the mix you need. Even if you're doing this to prep for sale, you can try to treat it yourself first and then see if the buyer then also requires remediation after they do their own inspection.
There are a lot of people who take mold very seriously, but they are usually in the mold industry. In reality it's really not a big deal as long as you take care of it occasionally. We live in a moldy/moist area.
Regarding ventilation, it depends on the type of ventilation you go with- if you want to change something penetrating the roof you'll need a roofer (and an electrician if you're moving to power ventilation), but if you can vent out the soffit or the gable, you can get away with using a handyman. This is only a big project if you let it be one.
Unless this is in response to request by a buyer in a real estate transaction, then this is probably going to be expensive because everyone sees dollar signs around real estate transactions.

My honest thoughts are to do next to nothing. In virtually all circumstances, mold remediation is a complete waste of money. Basic DIY treatment including putting in a fan yourself or hiring a handyman to do it in your attic, cleaning with any home depot type store mold cleaning product, and painting where needed, will do the trick. The mold remediation industry as a whole is mostly a big scam. The two most common times when it is needed is when a member of your household has a specific allergy or when the mold is so prevalent that its become a structural issue. The first is rare, the second is almost impossible. The latter is often the result of either a major leak in the roof or a major flood with long term (days to weeks of) standing water in the house.
Mold is everywhere. The species you list are in just about all of our cars, places of work, schools, churches, outside on our deck, nears our pools, in our kids shoes, lockers, sports bags... Attic Ventilation is key not just for mold, but to control temperature in you home, keep out insects and wildlife, and stop smells. Any handyman can install an attic fan that you can buy at home depot. An electrician will charge a bit more, but they can do it. As for the rest, hire a good house cleaning company or get your elbow grease going.
Its just not a problem in most cases. I would pull up any baseboards in your basement and see if they are rotting and covered in mold. If so, you may need to take action down their. If not, spray, wipe, circulate the air and get a dehumidifier and you will likely be fine. Just my thoughts, but good luck to you in whatever you do.
I would remove all the drywall from the basement and wash the foundation/cinder block walls with tilex (the bathroom cleaner). Afterwards run a regular old fan to circulate the air for a couple of weeks.
The attic is easy. Remove the insulation and our junk. The attic is a terrible place to storage things, the heat/extremely cold destroys.
Call George McComb - I've used his roofing service, Many of my neighbors have too. He is a old fashioned kind of guy who will give an honest opinion. https://georgemccomberoofing.com/

It's really hard to say without knowing the extent and size of the job. Every situation is different in terms of the amount of mold, location, type of mold involved, company used for the remediation (contractor vs a professional mold remediation company). We went through a similar situation a few years back and we ended up using Crystal Restoration out of Port Chester (almost everyone I spoke to about the situation recommended them). We felt very safe through out the process and confident in their work. Be ware of companies that say they can do it but don't actually specialize in it and make sure you do your homework on whom ever you choose. Best of luck!
