Hello, I live in North Stamford and I work in the Bronx (Hutchinson Metro Center).
I like Stamford but it's 1 hour drive (and 1 hour to go back home), by car.
I'd like to move closer to the Bronx, even half way is ok, but I don't know the towns very well.
I visited New Rochelle but was not impressed. I liked some areas of Rye and White Plains. I am not sure about Port Chester, Mt Vernon and Larchmont.
I think Country Club in the Bronx is pretty nice.
In Stamford I have a good deal: $950 for a studio, including all the utilities (internet too) and I spend approx $300 for gas every month.
So if I live closer I spend less for gas and I can afford a higher rent.
I would say my budget is $1300-1400 for a studio or 1br apt (almost impossible?).
I like to live in quiet residential areas not far from stores. Stamford seems similar to White Plains in some ways but I am open to all suggestions.
Thank you

Stamford is one of of most expensive areas to live in it less expensive than NYC it similar to New Rochelle rental prices. Tip of The Bronx to Stamford is 35 mins by driving traffic can be heavy when u reach into the The Bronx in the morning and evening I think you find a desent apartment that price in Stamford but it going closer to Downtown Stamford the more quiet areas is North Stamford it way more $$$. I don't recommmed driving from Stamford to The Bronx everyday due to traffic there a $5 dollar toll in NY going into CT near the border. You can take Metro North local train from Stamford station to Mount Vernon East there bus connection to #5 and #2 trains in The Bronx. The

The northern part of Mount Vernon by Bronxville border along seems desent and residential stay away from southern mouth vernon by metro north line area going toward The Bronx, Look into The Pelhams in Westchester County also, go into New Rochelle again

Mont Vernon bus connection to #2 and #5 trains in The Bronx or Drive but heavy traffic

Thank you for your reply. I don't want to live to Stamford anymore, because even if I like it, I live in North Stamford, it is too far from my office in the Bronx (Exit 2 of the Hutchinson pkwy, just a few miles before Whitestone Bridge, so I don't pay the toll).
I would like to find a nice town close to the Merritt Pkwy or Hutchinson Pkwy so it will take me less than an hour to go to my office. I travel by my car, it's the best way. I don't want to take buses or trains.
So I guess:
White Plains
New Rochelle
Rye
Pelham-Country Club
could be good options. Maybe Rye?

Any reason you are not sure about Larchmont? Because, if you think Rye could work, Larchmont could work too.

Mamaroneck is another option. Some of the river towns might also work.
