Oh my goodness, don't do this to yourself! If you were commuting at off hours then maybe, but regular rush-hour commuting? The 95 sucks and the 287 across White Plains is a parking lot. And you'd have the privilege of paying the bridge toll for this commute! Don't do it under any circumstances!
You could take 287 to the Merritt Parkway through the backroads. Depending on what part of Greenwich you’re going to, this might work to your advantage. Traffic could be anywhere, so just be advised of the drivers in front of you and have GPS.
Thanks to both. I think it would be for a few months until I found housing on the other side of the bridge.I am currently living in temp housing but it is available long term.
I used to live in croton and commuted to Greenwich. It took about an hour. But I see long term this would not work. Globetrekker where would I get the Merritt? Thanks.
To get to the Merritt Parkway, take 287 to exit 9N. Stay in the left lane of that exit because you will see signs for Hutchinson River Parkway south on the right. You want north. After the traffic light, merge to the right lane and take the ramp towards Hutchinson River Parkway North. The Hutch is the same thing as the Merritt. However, once you cross Connecticut state lines, it become the Merritt.
Thanks but it wouldn’t solve the issue of 287 would it.
No, you'd have to get almost all the way across the 287 before joining with the Hutch/Merritt. I will say that I used to commute to north Stamford on the Merritt and it was mostly pleasant. In the rain it's guaranteed to be a parking lot and if there's an accident forget it (the two often go together...).
If this is a temporary thing and you can just suck it up for a few months, knowing that you don't have to do it forever, well, maybe you won't go crazy. But as a long-term thing, it's less than ideal.
