I currently live on a cute, friendly street in rye neck . It’s a nice street but gets gritty as you get away from our street. We are considering doing work on our house. However, the tax increase would be substantial. We found a house down the road in Harrison which is much larger in a nice neighborhood(Sterling ridge). The taxes would be the same. Is going from a Rye neck school district to Harrison school district a big deal? I know that Rye Neck is much smaller.

They are both great school districts. The big difference is that Harrison is a much much bigger school district.

The great selling point for Harrison High is the Harrison High IB Program.

We seriously considered Harrison when choosing a town to move to. In particular, we really liked Sunny Ridge but Sterling Ridge was also on our list.

Another advantage of Harrison is generally lower taxes, especially if you buy a house that is under-assessed (Harrison doesn't reassess taxes upon sale).

The first thing I thought of after reading your post was that Sterling Ridge area has no sidewalks. If you want to be closer to the train station area you will find sidewalks in that area. I like Sterling Ridge. If anyone asked me what a typical residential neighborhood in Westchester County suburbs looks like, I would tell them to drive around Sterling Ridge.

You will get a good piece of property in that area. Also, Harrison High School is near Sterling Ridge. Harrison High School is near the Mamaroneck Avenue exit on the Hutchinson River Parkway, right on the border. So knowing your way around helps.

I live in the area. It's super quiet, great for walking and biking. BIG lots. And while you can't walk to town really, the area is super convenient to the Hutch/287/684 for getting places, and downtown Rye, White Plains, and Mamaroneck are all about 10 minutes away. Harrison Ave is a great school, and the IB program at the high school is a big draw.

As others have said, the biggest difference in the school districts in the size. There are 4 elementary schools in Harrison, which all funnel into one middle and one high school.
