Hi
I live in a rental and con Edison had to turn off the gas lines bec of a lot of leaks . The landlord has refused to start any repairs and is not responding.

We are a total of 12 rental units without cooking gas managing on hotplate. We have complained to the village building department and numerous times to the property management.

Is there anything else we could do. We still have heat and hotwater. We have been paying rent on time.

^^^ yeah, but first send a certified letter to the owner/management company stating your intentions -

better yet talk to a local attorney and ask him to set up an escrow account and put all of your payments in the escrow and the demands you are making and why...

that way the LL or management company can't come back at YOU

I forgot to recommend that you read closely your lease and what the LL is legally obligated to provide, be specific in your certified letter (signed receipt!!)....also give a time limit for their reply....for instance, say "your reply must be in writing to the undersigned lessee within 10 business days"

Good luck to you!

I feel for you. Leaking gas lines are a major hassle.

Look into Implied warranty of habitability claims. I highly recommend seeking out a consultation with a lawyer who can guide you in this circumstance.
