Hermon NY is on the Canada border and nowhere near Westchester.

I realize that this is your first post, but I think you have made an error. Hermon NY is in St. Lawrence County, near the Ogdensburg bridge to Canada. Its not in Westchester. I cannot answer any questions about it as I have only seen signs for it when I am driving between Ft. Drum and Potsdam.

There is no Harmon, NY. there is a train station known as Croton Harmon, but its not named for its location. That history is interesting to me though. Clifford Harmon was a late 19th century real estate investor. He purchased most of the old Van Cortlandt family farm as an investment. He eventually sold some of this land to the NY Central Railroad but the deed had a condition running with the land that the name of the station the railroad would build here must always bear his name. It was known as the Harmon Station for a number of years, but was renamed the Croton-Harmon Station as the Croton area expanded. Because the land was the perfect location to switch from electric to diesel, it became a "terminal" for all the diesel trains. This lead to the building of exchange equipment, shops for train maintenance and repair, and made it sort of a rail hub. Croton became home to many employees of the railroad, and it remains so today. There never was any formal governmental town or entity named Harmon. the Harmon farm existed for years and was slowly sold off to other developers. But it wasn't and isn't a town. It was just a piece of land. It has its own cool history. It was meant to be a conclave for artists near the city. Early silent stars Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks both had homes in the enclave. It expanded into a sort of commune and was a haven for early socialists. Amazing history for a beautiful place to live.

Croton is a fantastic place to live. Very low crime and a wonderful, still mostly, blue collar town. Schools are well respected, homes are nice, and since it is a hub, many trains go express to the city with no stops between Croton and 125thStreet/Grand Central, so its only around a 50 minute train ride. Its a great place.
