So, I've met someone, and while she lives out here on the West Coast now, she's from Hastings-on-Hudson. My friends have warned me she's got some money, and that it might come up from time to time, as in she might be a little spoiled.

Question - how ritzy is H-o-H? Like, "Kids don't have to worry about college" she's got some money, or "Kids don't have to worry about McLaren F1s" she's got some money? Can you tell me how rich a neighborhood Hastings-on-Hudson is?

It has that rep because it's north of the Bronx and Yonkers so those from HOH may be compared to those from Bronx and Yonkers. There was a co-worker at my office from HOH they used to nickname "Hastings" for that reason. HOH is certainly a nice place but it's not like Scarsdale, Bronxville, Rye.

Not ritzy. Actually a little dumpy in the downtown area compared to some of the other river towns, such as Irvington and Tarrytown. Nice location though.

If I had a choice between Tarrytown and Hastings, it'd be Hastings HANDS DOWN. Tarrytown is much more blue-collar, with smaller homes and properties. It also has a much grittier feel than Hastings.

I would probably think more along the lines- of " kids don't have to worry about college". There are some expensive homes in Hastings, but as earlier poster mentioned, not along the lines of some other towns in Westchester. But I am sure there are people in Hastings who are extremely wealthy- esp w proximity to the city.

Call the police department and ask about the crime stats.

Hastings is a Nice community, not super rich at all. Judge her on her personality and how she treats you not on how much money her parents have.

All the best!

You can find people like that from just about anywhere. I spent some of Memorial Day weekend in Hastings (I am moving there in July) and found people to be friendly (people walking would wave, the merchants downtown were friendly and welcoming). There were a few nice homes, but it didn't impress me a bit as being "ritzy" or rich.

Not the type of place where people compare Porsches but definitely the place where people compare SAT scores.

More of a a hip-to hippie element.

Pretty down-to-earth community for lower Westchester County. Not many poor people and not many rich people. Easy commute to Manhttan. But a bit on the dull side for my taste, and not very convenient to shopping. But if they ever get rid of that eyesore industrial garbage on the river, it will truly be beautiful.
