What is the difference between Rye and Rye Neck? Also, I noticed that there is a private school in Rye called The Rye Country Day school. Do most families send their kids to the private school or the public? I understand that their public schools are quite good. Just wondering why you'd send your kids to the private school (unless there is a snobbery issue here) if your public school is excellent? Anyone know anything about these communities?
Rye Country Day is a nice school. Yes, the public schools in Rye are very good. Some people prefer the private school atmosphere. The Westchester schools are good and if you want snobbery look no further than some public school. But private school offers a different sort of community. Life tends to center around the school. Also a private school can choose who it admits and expells, so certain behaviors are just unacceptable and those students are asked to leave. Some students with learning disabilities like the extra support and advanced kids can work at their own pace.
Rye Neck is a school district that has students from a part of mamaroneck and a part of Rye. Rye school district has students from Rye only, Mamaroneck School district has students from Mamaroneck and Larchmont.
Rye Neck homes range from $500k near mamaroneck station to millions of dollars in Shore Acres, Mamaroneck (which has its own private beach and pool) and Greenhaven in Rye...If you like McMansions Check out Johnson Place, Morris Ct and Keane Ct in Rye... all Rye Neck School district
Rye City- is considered one of best school districts in the county. Rye Country Day is a very expensive private school that has students from NYC, Westchester and many other areas. I would think there aren't too many students from Rye (the actual city of Rye) that attend Rye Country Day- of course that's just a guess. For many very wealthy families, public school wouldn't even be a consideration- no matter how wonderful the district they live in is.
