I have some questions which someone can hopefully answer regarding the Route 9 construction in Peekskill:
  • Is the construction being done during the day and/or overnight?
  • How congested is the traffic now?
  • Are there lane closures?
  • Has any traffic been rerouted to local streets?
  • Has this affected parking by the train station?
  • How has the noise and dirt been for local residents?
I appreciate any replies ... Thanks!

It seems to me to be destruction not construction.Blowing apart the whole mountain for this project should be a crime it is unnecessary. It looks like they are Building the New Jersery turnpike at the Peekskill water front. How many lanes are they putting there 20?Another project that Peekskill people should be screaming about is the lincoln terrace project where they are building houses on the hillside that holds up Crompond road .One house already had to be destroyed because the hillside is coming down and now they have a huge wall built into the hill side to hold up the land that is sliding down. And if you look where the wall ends the hillside is crumbling down there now .This is a disaster waiting to happen.Who ever gave the o.k. to this project is crazy and who ever buys a house under this wall and hillside is nuts. Why would they think this hillside is a good place to throw up a whole neighborhood.Did they wonder why nothing was ever built there before?

Until recently I worked near Peekskill for a long time, so from what I saw, see in CAPS below.

  • How congested is the traffic now? PRETTY BAD THOUGH NOT BY THE STANDARDS OF SAY THE CROSS BRONX EXPWY ON A TYPICAL DAY
  • Are there lane closures? YES, ONE LANE IS CLOSED, SOMETIMES THE WHOLE HIGHWAY IS CLOSESD, THATS WHY ALL THE TRAFFIC
  • Has any traffic been rerouted to local streets? NOT OFFICIALLY (EXCEPT WHEN BOTH LANES ARE CLOSED), BUT IT'S PRETTY EASY TO GET AROUND IT IF YOU KNOW THE AREA.
  • Has this affected parking by the train station? DON'T KNOW, THOUGH I IMAGINE AT THE VERY LEAST IT'S HARDER TO GET TO THIS PARKING.
  • How has the noise and dirt been for local residents? I'LL LEAVE THIS UP TO PEEKSKILL RESIDENTS.
I appreciate any replies ... Thanks!

Yes, the work seems to be done during the daytime only. It's one lane only in each direction between roughly Hudson St and Route 6 (a bit before and after each of those roads). I haven't been in that area in the morning, but the afternoon rush is pretty slow.

Update: I was driving on Route 9 the other night, and it was closed in both directions at Hudson St as they were doing work on the bridge there. Fortunately, traffic wasn't an issue at the time; I was just diverted to local streets.
I noticed a temporary sign on Route 9A in Briarcliff Manor stating that night work near Peekskill was beginning on May 13 after 9 pm.
