I consider moving to NY, but I would like to find a nice area for a jewish modern orthodox family; so far, I have looked at 4 possibilities:
- Livingston area
- Englewood area
- New Rochelle area
- Riverdale area
I would like to be close to an orthodox synagogue (walking distance), close to good primary and secondary jewish schools, and I need to be able to commute to down-town NY in a reasonable time (1hr max).
Ideally, I would also like to live in a nice neighborhood but where houses are not too spread out: I got used to London and I quite like it.
I would appreciate all your recommendations.
I would agree that Riverdale would be my first choice given your criteria. You can be in Grand Central in about 30 minutes on MetroNorth and about 45-50 minutes on the express buses BxM1, BxM2, and BxM18 (Lower Manhattan limited express).
