emphasis on sports in westchester schools? (Mamaroneck, Dobbs Ferry: school districts, ferry, place)

Can anyone share their opinions on which school districts or towns (if any) in Westchester have a heavy emphasis on sports/athletics and, in turn, a "culture" of atheletes/jocks/cheerleaders dominating the social scene for kids? Are there major differences between towns and school systems in this regard?

We are particularly interested in lower Westchester towns, esp. Dobbs Ferry, Hastings, Mamaroneck/Larchmont,& Irvington. Thanks.

I think you will be hard pressed to find a town with excellent schools in lower Westchester where the football players and cheerleaders "rule" the school. More emphasis is placed on academics. I know Irvington has an excellent track and field team- as well as a very good bowling team I think you may find more emphasis on football, sports in Northern Westchester, but not too sure??? Dobbs Ferry has a state championship football team- so I think sports, ie- football, baseball, might be a bit "bigger" there- but doubtful it dominates the social scene for the kids. Definitely not an issue.
