As a family of four looking to move to Westchester (from the city), we seem to really like the rivertowns. In particular, there is a Dobbs Ferry house (zoned for DF schools) that we're really interested in buying but need some opinions on the following:
1. School system - With all of the taxes we're going to be paying, we'll be sending the kids to public school starting in 3 years. We want something that is high caliber, great reputation, great teachers, great programs, etc. In your opinion, will Dobbs Ferry school system afford us these things? What are the pros/cons of DF school system? Would love to hear from parents who have kids in the system plus anyone else who can chime in.
2. Friendly Families - Are there a lot of families in DF or is it more of an older community? As a working mom in Manhattan, interested to hear how easy it is to meet other moms/families in the area. A friend in Scarsdale told me she's had an easy time meeting people in her area vs. the city. Not sure if anyone can provide their opinion about DF.
The other school districts in the rivertowns area are better performing than Dobbs Ferry, namely Hastings and Irvington. If you want high calibre I will say go for Irvington, but of course it is a more expensive neighborhood but totally worth it. I think all rivertowns have a laid back vibe to them and the people there seem pretty friendly.
