From some reports, it appears the driver had not been feeling well, enough for her to call her brother. Her brother told her to pull over but she continued, what a mistake here (not that she'd been driving already when feeling not well, but that she continued despite this).
I believe that the state police were looking for the driver, not as in pursuit, but to help her, since her brother called them when she said she was ill. However, she said she was near the Tappan Zee when she called, and when she wound up on the Taconic against traffic, one can only imagine that she was somehow extremely disoriented. It's so very tragic.
It an incredibly sad accident, especially being that the children that died were so young. Did the little 5 year old boy survive? I know he was in critical condition last time I had an update on the situation.
They say the boy is in "stable but critical condition". I thought stable and critical are opposite? Usually you say in "stable but serious condition". The driver's brother lost his 3 girls! Perhaps that's all his children!!!

I heard that the little boy has serious brain injury. Stable and critical are not inconsistent terms. Stable refers to whether the condition is changing. Critical is the how bad the condition is. Good is the best, then Fair, Poor, Serious and then Critical. It's as bad as it gets without being dead.
I just find it so sickening and appalling. How could anyone sane get in a car knowingly with very young children and do such a thing. Negligence is such an extreme thing, I feel for those children (and adults in the other car) who lost their lives in this senseless, senseless accident.
I have to wonder about her husband saying "nothing seemed wrong" when she left - seems very shady. I'm sure she did not decide to get wasted AFTER she was already on the road, and most likely had a substance problem going on in general if she was using while she was with her kids. Stable people do not swig from a vodka bottle while driving. If he had any knowledge and allowed her to get behind the wheel I hope he is charged to the fullest extent of the law. Regardless he has to live with the result and the loss of his children for the rest of his life.
